Play Synopsis:

Valley Theatre Company welcomes performers age 8+ to audition for this year’s Cabernet Cabaret: Let’s Go To The Movies! Audition participants should sign up for a 5-minute slot and prepare one song from the following list. A speaker and aux cable will be available for performers to use for a karaoke or accompaniment. No acapella auditions will be accepted and no accompanist will be available.

All auditions are open. A list of potential audition songs are available for download below.  Performers are welcome to bring an audition track not on our list to propose, as long as it fits the concept/theme. There are several articles online about musicals that have been adapted into feature films and movies that have been adapted for stage productions. The directing team reserves the right to make the final set list and casting decisions or to bring in additional performers as needed.

Cabaret Cabernet is largely a self-rehearsed production. All performers cast in the show must sign a cast/crew agreement that outlines the rehearsal expectations, including participation in dress rehearsals, load-in, and strike.​

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:​

1. Download the available song list here. We have a YouTube playlist of performances of these songs to help you hear how they might sound in a cabaret setting

2. Complete the Audition Form at the bottom of this page (or on Airtable here). 

3. Note ANY and ALL dates/times you have conflicts on your online audition form below.

4. Indicate on your audition form 2-3 songs from the list of available show songs that you would be interested/willing to sing. You may not necessarily get cast in the song that you audition with, and you should expect the possibility receiving a different or multiple songs.  Please check 2-3 songs from the list that you might want to do - but please audition with the one song you really want to do the most. 

5. Upload a headshot/digital photo as part of the form. 

6. ACTOR/CREW AGREEMENT. Download, print, sign. Upload completed agreement into form below or bring to your audition.

7. Sign up for ONE 5-minute audition slot on either September 12th or 13th HERE.  If you are auditioning a duet in addition to a solo, please reserve a second spot for the duet and note it in comments. You are asked to arrive 10 minutes early to check in.

IF YOU CAN'T MAKE THE AUDITION DATES: We will accept a video audition. Record yourself on your phone - introduce yourself, your song selection, and sing ONE MINUTE of your song.  Upload the video to Google drive or iCloud and share a link to the video with info@valleytheatreco.org, or in the audition form below.  Video auditions must be received by September 12 to be considered.

AUDITION TIPS:​

• We will not be providing an accompanist

• If the song is a duet and you want to prepare to sing the song with another actor and audition together you may. Each actor must still fill out their own audition paperwork, but you may sign up for one audition slot.

• There is flexibility allowed in casting.  Songs do not necessarily need to be sung by a person of the gender it was originally written for.  What is important is that you choose a song that showcases your vocal range well, and that your acting choices make sense.

• Minor students may bring one parent/guardian with you during the audition.

REHEARSALS:

• As a cabaret, this show is minimally rehearsed and most rehearsals will be one on one with director/music director. Most group rehearsals will be Saturdays and/or Sundays, though there may be some weekday evenings.

• We will have a required set-up day, tech and dress rehearsal prior to performance.
